A Letter to the Residents, Family Members and Staff After Hurricane Sandy

Dear Bristal Residents, Family Members and Staff,

This catastrophic storm has impacted all of us in different ways. It has been a very wearisome and exasperating time for all. We hope for those hardest hit that their life resumes to as close to normal as soon as possible.

First, we would like to thank the Bristal staff who have worked tirelessly over the past week both during the storm and throughout the power outages to maintain a safe and secure environment for the Bristal residents. Second, we would like to thank the residents and families for their patience as these extraordinary circumstances have been beyond anyone’s control.

As you many of you know, all but one of the Bristal communities lost power and one needed to be evacuated. Family members were contacted prior to the evacuation so many families took their parents home and those residents that remained were evacuated to one of our sister communities. Bristal communities are equipped with generators which provide light and heat in common areas, working elevators and refrigeration so we could provide hot meals. As a reminder, New York State Department of Health regulations prohibit us from having portable heaters of any kind in our communities for the health and safety of our residents.

We have greatly appreciated those that have shared their commendable words during this very difficult and trying time.

Regards,
Maryellen McKeon
