BRASS Bash 2014 at Hofstra University

All of The Bristal communities on Long Island came together for an amazing art event: BRASS Bash 2014.

For the BRASS Bash (Bristal Resident Art Supports Seniors), residents were asked to volunteer their artistic talents and create original, one-of-a-kind art pieces to donate to be auctioned off. The pieces were collected and arranged in gallery space at Hagedorn Hall, part of Hofstra University's School of Health Sciences and Human Services. The faculty and students from the Creative Arts Therapy Department were an important part of this successful event, as they assisted with the gallery design and were docents at the auction.

The silent auction was held during National Assisted Living Week to celebrate "The Magic of Music." Hofstra music major Andres Maldonado along with residents Marie Guinta and Ruth Weisberg performed musical entertainment on the piano throughout the event. Many creative residents knit, crocheted, and crafted items that were also up for auction. The residents really felt like stars - not only did they get to see their work displayed in the gallery, but many were interviewed by reporters as well!

The proceeds from the auction were donated to Senior Dreams Come True, a non-profit organization founded by Genser Dubow Genser & Cona. Senior Dreams Come True assists seniors on Long Island who struggle to make ends meet by granting simple wishes for help. At the end of the day, the auction raised over $1,500 dollars for the organization.

We were all proud to be a part of something so wonderful.
