Celebrating Baseball's Legendary Promise at The Bristal at Somerset

Residents at The Bristal at Somerset recently stepped back in time to relive one of baseball's most famous stories during a special immersive event honoring Babe Ruth.

The afternoon featured a screening of I'll Knock a Homer for You: The Timeless Story of Johnny Sylvester and Babe Ruth, a documentary produced and directed by Andrew Lilley, Sylvester's great-nephew, who joined residents for a live Q&A session afterward.

Johnny Sylvester was a young boy who, during the 1926 World Series received a promise from Babe Ruth himself: the Babe would hit a home run just for him. Ruth delivered, creating an enduring legend of hope and heroism, inextricably linked to the legacy of Ruth himself.

Alongside the film screening, residents explored a fascinating exhibit of Babe Ruth and Yankees memorabilia, featuring vintage baseball cards, uniforms, and newspaper articles. A lively baseball trivia game with prizes added extra fun to the day, which was filled with reminiscence as residents shared their own memories of the great American pastime.

Of course, no baseball celebration would be complete without classic ballpark snacks -- popcorn, peanuts, and Cracker Jacks were served during the documentary screening, and the day wrapped with a festive ballpark-themed dinner - including a Grand Slam Hot Dog Bar and refreshing Home Run Root Beer Floats, capturing the spirit of the ballpark and the vibrancy of the game.
