Garden City Fun Fact: In 1911, Garden City resident Earle Ovington made history by completing the first air mail flight, carrying over 600 letters and 1200 postcards in a mail bag from Garden City to Mineola. The journey was completed in just over six minutes, and Ovington returned to Garden City without landing, throwing the mail bag from the plane from around 500 feet above the ground.
