Residents and guests at The Bristal at York Avenue were transported back to one of New York's most legendary nightclubs for an immersive experience unlike any other - all in the spirit of style, music, and memory.
The event began with a thought-provoking book talk by acclaimed writer and cultural commentator Anthony Haden-Guest, author of The Last Party: Studio 54, Disco, and the Culture of the Night. Guests sipped champagne and enjoyed gold-dusted biscotti while Haden Guest shared vivid stories of Studio 54's vibrant history - a place where art, rebellion, and celebrity culture collided.
Next, residents stepped into an immersive, museum-style exhibit that celebrated all things Studio 54. Curated collections of disco-era fashion, vintage magazine covers, and iconic photographs were displayed, accompanied by an ambient soundtrack of 70s disco favorites, for a glamorous sensory experience.
The energy continued to build with a dazzling, live disco dance performance, paired with signature Studio 54-themed cocktails, like the Velvet Rope Martini and the Stardust Spritz. Beneath the shimmer of the mirrored ball, attendees danced, laughed and celebrated the era that redefined nightlife in New York.
As evening rose, the festivities culminated with an elegant candlelit Supper Club at 54. Residents and guests were seated at tables named for legends of Studio 54, and dined on decadent dishes including miniature beef Wellingtons, truffle mac and cheese, and seared branzino - all while classic disco music filled the room.
The day was made all the more radiant by a heartfelt debut from legendary fashion designer Montgomery Frazier, known as the Image Guru, who officially launched his latest fashion brand Ben-Mo-2-0.com, in honor of his late husband Ben Mindich. The emotional tribute celebrated Mindich's life and legacy, shining a spotlight on dementia awareness in partnership with CaringKind, New York's leading dementia care organization.
"In my grief and sorrow over Ben's passing, I've embarked on a crusade to raise awareness about the escalating crisis of dementia-related illnesses," said Frazier. "The Bristal and CaringKind helped blend nostalgia, artistry, and advocacy into an elegant affair. Studio 54 was about freedom and expression - and today, we honored that legacy with style and heart."
The signature line, Poppies for Papi, prominently features the red poppy flower, often symbolic of remembrance, hope, peace, and resurrection. "Ben-Mo-2-0 means Ben and Montgomery Reboot," Frazier explained. "When you're caring for someone with dementia, you live in a kind of surreal reality every day. I created these clothes because i didn't want our story - or anyone's story with dementia - to feel tragic. This is about staying vibrant, colorful, and alive.
Joining the celebration was model and artist Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, known as Rebel Heiress, who brought Frazier's colorful new collection to life on the runway, honoring a mission that resonates deeply with families and caregivers touched by dementia. Of the collection, Costin said, "It's a beautiful way to keep Ben's spirit alive and show that no matter your age, living colorfully keeps you vibrant and connected."
"The Bristal at York Avenue continually strives to create enriching experiences for our residents," said Evan Rossi, Regional Director of Resident Experience at The Bristal. "We were proud to continue our programming at The Bristal in a way that honored our community's vibrant spirit."
For residents like Kenneth K., 82, the day was about more than nostalgia - it was about joy. "Studio 54 brought the magic back! Hearing 'Stayin' Alive' and 'Night Fever' again stirred up memories I hadn't felt in years," he said smiling. "It was like reliving the best nights of my youth!"
Throughout the afternoon and evening, on thing was clear: events like this spark connections, lift spirits, and create memories that live on.
"That era was all about joy, freedom, and connection, and it's wonderful to see The Bristal recreating that spirit for residents today," said Haden-Guest. "Celebrations like this keep memories alive and spirits young.
