Learning About Indian Independence Day in Massapequa

Here in Massapequa, we celebrated Indian Independence Day by learning more about Indian culture. Our exploration began with a delicious Mulligatawny soup made by Chef Tim. Residents learned that the soup originated in India during the 19th century and features mild curry-spiced lentils, vegetables and chicken. In the afternoon we traveled virtually through India, visiting notable architectural sites and natural wonders, while exploring the country’s rich history. We finished with an informative lecture delivered by two of our team members, Janani Subramaniam and Suki Kaur, who share Indian heritage from different states in India. Both spoke and answered questions about the traditional dress, food, and differences in the various regions of India. Janani concluded the discussion with a moving tribute about Indian Independence Day. Thank you to Janani and Suki for such a robust presentation that residents truly enjoyed!
