For the 2024-2025 school year, The Bristal Assisted Living at Massapequa has partnered with Charles E. Schwarting Elementary School for a Leadership/Learning Program.
For October, the residents were Halloween Mystery Readers in K-2 grade classrooms. Residents read book like Graves Family by Patricia Pollacco, The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz, Halloween Pie by Michael O. Tunnell, and Enzo's Very Scary Halloween by Garth Stein, among others. The students were captivated by their mystery guests, but Resident Pat McKeough said, "I think the residents had just as much fun as the students did!"
