Welcoming the Year of the Snake: Lunar New Year Celebrations at The Bristal

The Bristal communities joyfully welcomed the Lunar New Year, celebrating the traditions and symbolism of this vibrant holiday.

While sometimes referred to as Chinese New Year, the term Lunar New Year more accurately reflects its significance across multiple cultures, including those in China, Vietnam, Korea, and America, to name a few. This holiday follows the lunar calendar, meaning its date shifts each year, typically falling between late January and mid-February. Each year is associated with an animal from the Chinese zodiac, and 2025 ushers in the Year of the Snake, symbolizing wisdom, transformation, and resilience.

Residents embraced the festive spirit with a variety of activities. Communities adorned their shared spaces with festive decorations, and some enjoyed performances from traditional Chinese dancers and musicians.

North Woodmere residents honored the holiday by learning traditions associated with it, including the symbolism of each of the animals of the Chinese zodiac, followed by a stunning performance by traditional Chinese dancers.

A highlight for Armonk residents was the bu long dragon puppet performance, adding  to the festive atmosphere. "The dancers were amazing and played a big part in making the event special."

Residents at Somerset and Mount Sinai delighted in eating beautifully prepared Chinese foods while wearing red, a traditionally lucky color for the Lunar New Year.

Wishing you great happiness and prosperity for the year ahead!
